Environmental & Sustainability Policy

Our environmental policy sets out BobaCat Kitchen’s intention to be more environmentally sustainable and minimise the impact of its business activities on the environment.

We recognise that day-to-day production, service and disposal of food and drink is likely to consume moderate levels of natural resources and generate significant packaging and food waste. It is therefore vital that we constantly take measures and review practices to reduce waste and manage our procurement processes to support and protect the environment, natural habitat and our precious eco-system.

Our Commitments:

Purchasing and Supply Chain

  • Where feasible, we will purchase local and seasonal produce from local suppliers.
  • We will continue to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from a local independent supplier.
  • We will continue to purchase artisan bread from a local independent baker.
  • We will continue to purchase coffee beans from a local independent roastery.
  • We will work with regional food organisations that seek to promote local supply and enterprise.

Deforestation

  • We will continue to reduce palm oil products.
  • We will continue to only use recycled paper for administration.
  • We will continue to purchase RFA certified coffee through a local roastery.
  • Continue to create awareness of the RFA to our customers and staff.

Land Degradation

  • As a vegetarian business, we do not use beef products so do not contribute to the detrimental effect cattle farming is having on our eco-systems.

Resource Depletion

  • Support the campaign to ‘turn off’ power, water and gas in our business.
  • Continue to purchase energy efficient electrical equipment and maintain the equipment effectively to ensure its continued efficiency and prolong it’s life.
  • Continue to use LED lighting and sensor switches where possible.

Food Waste

  • We offer our ground coffee bean waste to customers to use as a soil improver in their gardens. We also use it in our planters and in staff gardens.
  • Our hot food is cooked to order, reducing the amount of hot food wastage significantly.
  • In 2025 we implemented the food waste scheme 'Too Good To Go' which has successfully saved meals for customers and reduced the wastage of unsold food by over 80%.
  • We will continue to assess our menus and streamline them where possible to reduce stock and any products which do not sell.

Ocean Degradation

  • We sell reusable cups and offer a discount for customers using reusable cups.
  • All disposable cutlery has been replaced by wood alternatives.
  • China cups are used for all dine-in customers to reduce the use of disposable cups.
  • Our disposable coffee cups are all eco friendly paper and fully recycleable.
  • Paper straws or Plant Based straws are use throughout.
  • Unavoidable single use containers are recycled.

Vegan and Vegetarian options

As a fully vegetarian restaurant, all of our food is vegetarian and approx 60% is vegan. We are constantly improving our vegan and vegetarian dishes to encourage customers to try new products and promote a change in regular eating habits.

Sustainability and animal welfare

  • We will continue to only purchase eggs and dairy products from Farm-Assured and Red Tractor accredited suppliers.
  • We will continue to only purchase British eggs.
  • We will continue to only purchase free-range eggs.
